Active species generated from a hybrid-function catalyst for the synthesis of chiral and related quaternary carbons based on radical chemistry

The efficient synthesis of various quaternary carbons is one of the remaining issues in synthetic organic chemistry. We have investigated the reactivities of tertiary-alkyl radicals generated from the reaction of alpha-bromocarbonyl compound and copper salt. During the course of our study, we found that the radicals can be reacted with organometallics. In this context, we try to develop a hybrid catalyst (system) which can generate both reactive tertiary-alkyl radical species and controllable organometallic species. The cooperation of two different active species will realize the efficient and rapid synthesis of various (chiral) quaternary carbons having carbon, nitrogen, oxygen, and boron substitutes.
